What is Cialis?

Cialis is used to treat erectile dysfunction (ED) in men.

Erectile dysfunction is when a man is unable to get or keep an erection firm enough for sex. ED is a sexual health condition (ED that affects men and women at the same time), it can be caused by a variety of conditions, including medical conditions, diet, stress, and other factors. Cialis works by helping to increase blood flow to the penis, which can be detected in the blood by a ultrasound probe.

Erectile dysfunction may be limited to the United States, but it can affect many different countries. In the United States, ED is a medical condition that affects millions of men.

A study published inJournal of the American Medical Associationindicates that the drug Cialis is effective at treating erectile dysfunction. The study is based on results of a randomised, double-blind, parallel group study involving 17 men with erectile dysfunction who were not taking any of the recommended medications. All were receiving either Cialis or Viagra.

The men were randomized to receive either 1 or 2 tablets of 20 mg Cialis or 10 mg Viagra. The study participants received either 5 or 20 mg of each active ingredient. All the men received treatment with Cialis. After three weeks, the men were asked to stop taking the drug. The men were instructed to continue to take the medication for the duration of the study.

Participants who continued to take the medication for at least three days were considered to have successfully achieved a satisfactory response in the trial. The study was terminated after a total of 24 subjects completed the study.

The study was approved by the Research Ethics Board at the Porto Alegre Hospital.

The study involved 18 men with mild to moderate erectile dysfunction. The men had a mean age of 41 years (± SD: 23.6±2.8 years). They were assigned to receive either Cialis (n=7) or Viagra (n=7). A detailed medical history of the patients is presented in.

The study was conducted in two phases, the first phase was a double-blind, parallel group trial. In the second phase, a placebo-controlled study was carried out.

Results of the study showed that Cialis was significantly more effective than Viagra at a statistically significant (P<0.001) difference of 5.3% between the two groups. However, there was no significant difference in the rates of successful treatment between Cialis and Viagra at a statistically significant difference of 2.2% between the two groups.

The study also showed that the treatment with Cialis had a positive effect on erectile function in men with mild to moderate erectile dysfunction (n=7). There was also a significant improvement in erectile function in those who were successfully treated with Cialis (P<0.001).

The study was stopped when the men stopped taking the medication for three days because of the severity of the erectile dysfunction. A study with more than 20 participants was terminated before the patients had reached their final number of participants.

The study has also been discontinued because of a serious adverse event. Although it is unclear if this is a causal relationship, the authors do note that a causal relationship has not been established.

The authors do note that, based on the results, the authors have not been able to provide a conclusion regarding the causality of the study.

Interactions

A. Top Drug-Drug Interactions:

1.Nitrates (e.g., nitroglycerin, isosorbide dinitrate): Cialis and nitrates both lower blood pressure. Taking them together can cause a significant and potentially life-threatening drop in blood pressure (hypotension), leading to dizziness, fainting, or even heart attack or stroke. It is contraindicated to use Cialis with nitrates or recreational "poppers" (amyl nitrites).

2.Alpha-blockers (e.g., prazosin, terazosin, tamsulosin): Both Cialis and alpha-blockers relax blood vessels, which can lead to excessive blood pressure reduction when used together. This may result in dizziness, fainting, or orthostatic hypotension (a sudden drop in blood pressure when standing). If needed, your doctor may adjust the dosage or recommend spacing the medications.

3.Other antihypertensive drugs (e.g., atenolol, propranolol, enalapril, lisinopril): Cialis can enhance the blood-pressure-lowering effects of these medications. While this interaction is usually less severe than with nitrates or alpha-blockers, it can still cause dizziness or fainting in sensitive individuals. Close monitoring of blood pressure is recommended.

Other Drug-Drug interactions:

  • Ketoconazole, itraconazole (used to manage fungal infection)
  • Protease inhibitors (used to manage HIV infection) Ex. ritonavir, lopinavir
  • Phenobarbital, phenytoin, carbamazepine (medicines used for fits)
  • Rifampicin, erythromycin, clarithromycin (medicines used for bacterial infections)
  • Other medicines used to improve blood flow to the penis (Ex. sildenafil)

B. Drug-Food Interactions:

Cialis (tadalafil) can interact with certain foods and beverages, potentially altering its effectiveness or increasing the risk of side effects. Here are the key drug-food interactions to be aware of:

  1. Grapefruit and Grapefruit Juice: Grapefruit can increase the levels of tadalafil in your blood by interfering with its metabolism. This may amplify side effects, such as headaches, dizziness, or low blood pressure. Avoid consuming grapefruit or grapefruit juice while taking Cialis.
  2. Alcohol: Drinking alcohol with Cialis can enhance the blood pressure-lowering effects of the medication, leading to symptoms like dizziness, lightheadedness, or fainting. Limiting alcohol intake is recommended while using Cialis.
  3. High-Fat Meals: While Cialis can be taken with or without food, consuming it with a high-fat meal may delay its onset of action. Opt for lighter meals if rapid effectiveness is needed.
  4. Caffeine: Though not a direct interaction, combining Cialis with high caffeine intake might worsen side effects like headaches or increase heart rate in sensitive individuals.
Ricanourced and NIH-approved tadalafil (Cialis) are available to order. These drugs are used to treat erectile dysfunction (ED) and have a high potential for side effects. Some are used off-label to treat conditions like high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and prostate cancer.
  • : Though not a direct interaction, combining Cialis with high- caffeine intake might modify its blood pressure-lowering effects to within minutes or even seconds, potentially improving symptoms like headaches or increase heart rate in sensitive individuals.
  • This item is for low-fat or low-dose use only. It is not intended or recommended for use in animals.
  • Exemestane (Fenofabutin, Venlafaxine, Profold, Pexas, Mircette, Wockhardt, guyenFT, Revon): These drugs are often used off-label to treat erectile dysfunction, but they are oftenINDUSTRATED.
  • Long-lasting effects are possible with non-medication interactions.
